- Mike,
-
- As luck would have it, I am also the proud owner of a Bendix/king
- "talkie". I am still looking, in vain lately, for a uhf to complement
- my
- vhf. It is rather easy to implement the CTCSS "steal" feature. You
- cannnot directly enter the pl code from the keyboard, but you can
- "steal" the code from another channel.
-
- It works like this:
-
- 1) For purposes of example, lets say channel one contains pl of 100
- hz,
- and channels two thru nine contain 103.5pl.
-
- 2)to steal the pl do the following, set the desired channel using the
- rotary knob, say you picked channel 5. Normally this channel would
- have
- pl of 103.5, but you want to use 100.0! BEFORE pressing the transmit
- key, press on the keypad the channel number that has the tone freq
- you
- want to steal. For our example we would press 1 on the keypad. This
- will
- summon the pl tone of 100.00 hz, and will be in effect until the
- radio
- is turned off, or until you press 0. Since this is a single keystroke
- command, the only channels you can steal from are 1-9.
-
- 3) to recap:
- A)set freq with channel knob
- B)press 1-9 to select the desired channel whose pl you want
- to
- substitute.
- C)to cancel, turn radio off or press the 0 key
-
- Hope this helps, I wish all ham gear was made this rugged. The
- batteries
- last forever. It's my radio of choice for all important events, take
- two
- batteries and transmit all day. It's never let me down.

- The local branch of the Committee for Development and Democracy in
- El Salvador asked me to post the following request for radio equipment.
-
- Please do NOT respond to me personally by e-mail. Respond instead, only
- to the address and phone listed in the body of this request.
-
- But if you remember, please tell them that you found out about it from
- the Internet. I want them to see the potential the Internet has to
- help groups like theirs. Thank you.
-
- ..............REQUEST FOR RADIO EQUIPMENT...............
-
- The Committee for Development and Democracy in El Salvador (CODDES) is
- involved in raising money and equipment for Radio Farabundo Marti in
- El Salvador.
-
- During the war, Radio Farbundo Marti was one of the main opposition voices.
- They are now, finally, a legal and recognized station. Radio Farabundo
- Marti was founded January 22, 1982 in the mountains of Chalantenango to
- provide an alternative analysis to the government controlled radio
- and television stations.
-
- Military operations during the 12 year civil war severely affected the
- operation of the station. There were many military attacks against its
- base stations. Because of these conditions, 18 members of Farabundo
- Marti died during the war.
-
- Now the station is legal. Democratic elections have been set for March
- 1994 and Radio Farabundo Marti wants to participate in setting a new
- course for the country.
-
- RADIO FARABUNDO MARTI NEEDS EQUIPMENT AND MONEY TO CONTINUE AND EXPAND
- ITS BROADCASTING.
-
- Please help us in this effort. A complete list of needed equipment is
- available upon request. If you can contribute equipment to the radio
- station, please contact us at:
-
- CISPES P.O. BOX 57337 LOS ANGELES, CALIF. 90057
-
- Please make checks payable to CISPES/FM RADIO.
-
- You will receive an immediate reply when corresponding with us and an
- immediate acknowledgment of all contributions. This will include
- an upldate on El Salvador and a letter from Radio Farabundo Marit, with
- further information about the radio's projects and broadcasting schedule.
- The radio station is now a totally 'above-ground' legal entity in
- El Salvador, recognized by the government of El Salvador as legitimate.
- If you do not want that follow-up information, simply make that clear when
- contributing.
-
- Muchas Gracias! Many thanks from CISPES, CODDES, and RADIO FARABUNDO
- MARTI!

-
- I'm looking for schematics for the old CB radio named
- PRESIDENT "Honest ABE"
- I would appreciate very much any clue on how to find it -
- maybe somebody carries things like that?
- I want to tune it to 10 meters - just for fun...
- I also suspect it's not doing quite well.

- Subject: Yaesu FT23r dial problems
- To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
-
- I'm having a slight problem with my Yaesu FT 23r handheld 2m.
-
- There are two ways to adjust the frequency, via the buttons on the face, or
- the dial knob on the top of the radio. Well, the dial knob has gone haywire
- because the radio now only works when it's 'between settings' (not at a
- full rest-spot in the dials "clicks"). I think that maybe the shaft and
- the connectors in the switch/pot for the dial became jarred off a bit, so
- it's really NOT making a connection when it's at a resting spot. It only
- works when inbetween the rests of the switch (the whole radio). If its at
- a resting spot in the switch, it transmits, and the LCD fades. Is there
- a simple fix to the switch/potentiometer or is it a simple-enough replace?
-
- I opened the rig, and it looks like an easy item to get at.
-
- Any help would be appreciated.
